Areas of Practice

Safiya Nanji is an articling student at Ross Nasseri. Prior to completing her third year of law school Safiya joined Ross Nasseri as a summer student.

Safiya holds a J.D. from Western University, a M.A. from Columbia University, and a B.A. from Tufts University. Safiya has received numerous awards both for her academic achievements and advocacy related endeavors.

At Western Law School, Safiya served as a Program Manager for the Sport Solution Clinic, where she advocated on behalf of National, Olympic, and Paralympic athletes to ensure their voices are properly represented. Safiya used her passion for advocacy to support athletes in pursuing safe sport, team selection, and government funding related complaints. Notably, she drafted compelling written submissions for safe sport cases before the Sport Dispute Resolution Centre of Canada.

As an active and engaged member of the Western Law community, Safiya co-chaired the Distinguished Speaker’s Committee, Community Outreach Committee, and the Advocacy Committee. She was also an avid mooter and the recipient of the Best Defendant Factum in the Warren K. Winkler Class Action moot.

Safiya has strengthened her passion for advocacy as she worked to institute change at both the grassroots and macro-policy levels. Prior to law school, Safiya’s experiences include preparing a memorandum with policy recommendations for the United Nations, as well as working at the Parliament of Canada and Physicians for Human Rights.
