Daniel Viola is an articling student at Ross Nasseri. During his summer as a student with the firm, he gained experience working on complex commercial and civil litigation matters, civil fraud, and investigations.
Daniel completed his J.D. at Osgoode Hall Law School, where he received the Dean’s Letter Recognizing Cumulative Overall Excellence, the J.S.D. Tory Research and Writing Award, and the Bora Laskin Prize, among other awards. Daniel was active in the Osgoode community. He served in multiple senior editorial roles at the Osgoode Hall Law Journal, was selected as a Dean’s Fellow, and was a clinic volunteer with Artists’ Legal Advice Services. He also represented the school as an oralist at the Laskin Moot.
Prior to studying law, Daniel was an award-winning journalist. He was senior editor at The Walrus, Canada’s leading news and general interest magazine, and editor-in-chief of the literary quarterly Maisonneuve, which, during his tenure, won Magazine of the Year at the National Magazine Awards. The journalism he wrote and produced has won or been nominated for nearly 50 national awards.
Daniel also developed a strong interest in access to justice while working as a summer student at Innocence Canada, where he researched wrongful convictions.
